Mind control (also known as brainwashing, coercive persuasion, mind abuse, thought control, or thought reform) refers to a process in which a group or individual “systematically uses unethically manipulative methods to persuade others to conform to the wishes of the manipulator(s), often to the detriment of the person being manipulated”. The term has been applied to any tactic, psychological or otherwise, which can be seen as subverting an individual’s sense of control over their own thinking, behavior, emotions or decision making.
Dokko Jin believes in control. He needs to control his mind in order to control his body. While doing Mind Control Time he rests on a lounge chair, closes his eyes and begins to chant.
He really needs to control his wild heart which beats fast whenever Gu Ae Jung is around. We first see him trying to use Mind Control Time to get him focused on getting the Hollywood deal and then subsequently trying to forget about the effect Gu Ae Jung has on him. The latter causing him to unconsciously hum the KBSN song called Thump-thump (두근두근). Seemingly, Mind Control Time becomes fruitless for this top star when his heart is moved by the lowly Gu Ae Jung.
The use of Mind Control Time takes a more serious turn after the success of Dokko Jin’s surgery. After hearing that Gu Ae Jung got into a car accident, he rushes to the hospital to see if she’s okay. His fear of losing her causes his heart to beat rapidly so Gu Ae Jung suggests Mind Control Time to get him back into his safety zone.
